Has it really been a whole month since my last post!? I had great plans to start the year off right away with a post on January 1st however my work and a cold had other plans for me. Between catching one of those 7-10 day colds and a huge 3 year project going in to production at work at the end of the year there was little room left for such luxuries as blogging. No worries though! I am back at it and so excited for 2012. Blogging may have had to take a backseat to other more pressing issues but it hasn't stopped me from staying true to my love for making stuff! I have been busy filling up my sketchbook for the Sketchbook Project, I will be sending it off to go on tour at the end of this month! I've also been busy drawing and painting and planning my projects for the upcoming year. My list is still growing!
I've been trying to think of a great word or words for my focus for 2012. 2011 seemed to be about connecting with others through art whether that meant sharing my work with others, being inspired by people in my life and showing that through my work or spending time with people who share a love for art and crafting. 2011 was an inspiring year for me in this area and I hope it continues this year as well but of course I want more for myself as an artist, there is always room for improvement, growth and learning! Whether you call it focus, mediation, thoughtfulness, etc... I think it is amazing how our attention to a particular question or goal brings about the answer we seek. I often wonder if it comes from within or from another source, the universe or muse, our genius, something divine. Whatever it is I know that I will eventually find my answer. My focus came to me last night as I finished what was supposed to be merely an experiment with a new type of watercolor paper, to see how well it would hold up to lots of mixed media applications, wet and dry.
I love her, yes I know I say that about all my girls but her expression says more to me. I see style and strength in her. As I continue to experiment and learn I am constantly on a search for my own style and in this painting I have combined my love of doodling with my love for mixed media and faces. I also see a sense of strength and determination in her expression, she is strong, I can feel her strength as I study her face. 2012 will be a year of discovery, learning more about my style and a year that is just 'full' and for that I will need my inner strength that keeps me moving forward. Thank you so much for visiting and I wish you a very Happy New Year!

beautiful work! happy 2012 to you and wishing you well!
